In my role as a visual designer in Schibsted Nordic Marketplaces, I got to work on a project called Mario - focusing on the potential of AI, and laying the groundwork for future AI-driven solutions in our Nordic marketplaces.
Goal and Approach:
The goal of Project Mario was to develop an innovative, demoable user-facing solution using AI technologies. The project focused on enhancing the search function and personalization features in Schibsted marketplaces by integrating advanced AI capabilities.
Challenges:
Challenges included creating new AI-driven functionalities without replicating existing features. The focus was on problem-statement-based search and conversational flows to keep the project innovative.
Findings:
We identified significant opportunities in AI search and personalization. Key functionalities included:
- AI Search: Using text, image, and voice inputs for comprehensive results.
- Suggested Searches: Helping users use natural language and showcasing AI's contextual understanding.
- Similarity Search: Combining text and image for accurate product matches.
- Condition Evaluation: AI-generated condition assessments.
- Recommendations: Personalized listings based on user interactions.

UX Learnings:
Design principles emphasized variability, user control, trust, and exploration. Key considerations included transparency and fostering a conversational interface.
Tools and Methods:
The project used inspiration workshops, customer journey mapping, concept workshops, user stories, wireframes, and Figma sketches, focusing on mobile user experience.
